River
Suck Region
The River as good access from all road bridges
at Castlestrange, Athleague and Rookwood also
from the minor roads between the bridges. The
Shannon Regional Fisheries Board provides foot-bridges
on some of these stretches to facilitate anglers.
The river is wide, and slow moving and in places
up to depth of 25ft. Can be fished with either
stick/waggler, pole or feeder. Roach, Bream and
Hybrids are in abundance on many stretches. This
is a prime location for large Pike to 35lbs +. |
Lough
Lung
Located
near to the village of Glinsk. The lake is about 6ft
deep at the margins but shelves off quite quickly
into about 15ft to 20ft of water. Much of the lakeshore
margins are covered in reeds but fishing is possible
off the stands which have been constructed over recent
years by the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board. With
most Bream averaging about 2lbs to 4lbs with some
going as big as 7lb. There is a very good stock of
Roach, Hybrids and Rudd. It is a very good Pike fishery
and regularly produces specimen weight fish to 20lbs
plus. Anglers are asked to seek permission to fish
from Mr Collins at the adjoining farm house on the
way into the lake. The Shannon Regional Fisheries
Board provides an access road, car park and a catwalk
to 26 fishing stands
Black's
Lake
On
the Derryhippo River which flows south from Creggs
village nearby. This is a small lake of 15 acres.
Bream are the main species. With fish up to about
6lbs and is also excellent for Roach also present
are Hybrids, Rudd The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board
provides car parking (8-9 cars) and 9 angling stands.
An angling information board is located at the entrance
into the fishery.
Stonehams
Lake
is about 20 acres. It is on the Derryhippo River,
a small tributary of the River Suck flowing from Creggs
and is renowned for its Bream situated about 200 metres
from the main River Suck. There is an access road,
car park and 12 stands. The lake is situated north
of Athleague within about 3 kms from Castlecoote village,
immediately off the Castlecoote- Donamon Road - follow
the signposts.
Hollygrove
Lake
Is
a 50 acre lake located between Ballygar and Athleague,
upstream of Rookwood Bridge on the River Suck system.
It is within half a kilometre of the main River Suck.
The lake is a fairly shallow typically 5ft with two
deep veins. Mainly being a Tench and Pike lough, also
having a good stock of Hybrids, Roach and Rudd. You
can expect Tench to 7lbs and Pike to 25lbs+. Angling
for Tench is best during night hours. The Shannon
Regional Fisheries Board has improved access via a
new road into the lake, car park 8 cars and footbridge
leading to 8 angling spaces on the shore with an existing
stand accommodating 4 to 5 anglers.
