A Men's Shed is a place where men of all ages, backgrounds
and situations can come together to share information,
share skills, or just talk together, in a safe, friendly
environment meeting every Tuesday at 4pm. The Boyle
Shed are currently looking for a premises in Boyle
town which would be a base to enable them to work
on skills such as wood turning, computers, music,
mechanics and other skills. The Boyle Men's Shed Group
is currently working on a new project which will be
a family attraction in Boyle. Boyle's very own 'Mini
World'. The project is under construction and is now
looking for people to help with building, making and

2013 will see the seventh International Seminar on
John McGahern, commemorating the work of our very
own renowned Irish writer. The international seminar
on John McGahern is organised by NUI Galway and Leitrim
County Council. Last years event attracted more
than 150 participants from Ireland and overseas. This

For Flag and Country - The Emigrant Irish in Military
Service. For over 400 years Irish emigrants have served
in the military forces of their adopted countries.

25th & Sun 26th May - Hot Air Baloons in Boyle
Hot Air Balloons will enthral both the young &
the not so young. Sat 25th & Sun 26th May will
bring back memories to many who saw the balloons in
Lough Key Forest Park 20 years ago thanks to Roscommon
County Council. There will be regular shaped balloons
& some very special shaped balloons. One of the
balloons, Joelly the Little Bee, is travelling all
the way from Phoenix, Arizona to enjoy the beauty
of the Irish countryside and to meet Irish children
and their families. Another stunning special shape
balloon will be Sonic the Hedgehog who will be celebrating
his 21st birthday in Boyle. Balloon
launches will be from the beautiful Lough Key Forest
Park in Boyle so if you want to see the balloons inflate
& launch you will need to be in the park by 6.30
am and 6.30pm. Irish Balloon Flights are taking bookings
for hot air balloon rides. These flights MUST be booked
in advance and there are limited spaces available
so book early to avoid disappointment. NO bookings

30th May - Band of Brass to Shine at King House
Start your June Bank Holiday on the right note with
Band of Brass who will perform a special concert in
the elegant Main Salon of King House, Boyle on Thursday,
30th May. As guests of Boyle Arts Festival, this talented
ensemble of eight accomplished Mayo musicians will
present a lively & eclectic programme of well-known
brass standards, light jazz & classical favourites
under the direction of Ballina native Jackie Greham,
M.D. of Castlebar Concert Band.
Formed
5 years ago, Band of Brass is a combination of founding
& senior members of Mayo Concert Orchestra, Castlebar
Concert Band and Ballina & Foxford Town Bands.
Each musician has a celebrated and diverse music career,
playing internationally with a variety of acts, and
each brings their own wealth of experience to the
ensemble. The group are Liam Hughes & Jackie Greham
on trumpet, Declan Hynes & Todd Burke on euphonium,
horn & bass from Michael Rooney & Marty Walsh
and double bass & drums from Michael Baskquill
& Seán Burke. Indulging
you in an early Bank Holiday treat this entertaining
brass ensemble has a great reputation and promises
a varied repertoire with hits like 'New York, New
York,' 'Mack the Knife' and 'The Entertainer' from
the movie The Sting. The event is presented by Boyle
Arts Festival as part of County Roscommon's week-long
Gathering Celebrations. The concert starts at 8pm
and tickets are €10, which includes a complimentary

31st May - Boyle Musical Society 30th Celebrations
The
award winning Boyle Musical Society will present their
30th annual show later this year and to celebrate,
a very special concert is planned. Following on from
last year's two, sell-out Midsummer concerts in King
House, the Society will present another evening of
spectacular entertainment, celebrating the best from
the world of music and from their last 29 shows. The
concert will take place in the atmospheric surroundings
of St. Joseph's Church, Boyle on Friday May 31st.

1st June - Miners' Way/Historical Trail
A Walk will be held on Saturday 1st of June on a section
of The Miners' Way/Historical Trail. The meeting place
is near the garden Centre in Lough Key Forest Park
with registration from 2.30pm. As the walk is linear
we will be taking some cars from the meeting place
at 2.45pm to go to where we will start the walk at
the Organic Garden Centre near Knockvicar at 3.00pm.
The walk would be described as easy and is about 11km
long. Walkers will go through Errironagh bog to Cloontykilla
castle, along some beautiful forest Trails, and along
the shore of Lough Key and through part of Lough Key
Forest Park. The Walk is practically all on forest
roads/paths and quite country roads and includes one
km of a path through Errionagh bog. Walkers are advised
to use walking shoes or boots and to bring along a
snack, drink and a mobile phone. There will be a short
break about half way through the walk. No fee. All

(looped) Walk
Another walk will take place starting at the Organic
Garden Centre (Knockvicar) at 3.00pm also. This 5km
walk which would be described as being easy is on
the new Knockvicar Bog (looped) Walk. Booking for

9th to Sun 15th Sept - Boyle Curlew Walkers Hill Walking
Festival
This is a seven day hill walking event, join in for
one or for all seven walks. The walks follow the Miners
Way and the Historical Trail, accross the scenic rolling
hills of North Roscommon, Leitrim and Eastern Sligo.
As well as the peaceful hills and country side the
walks pass though many historic and picturisque Irish
villages and towns.
The walks will be guided and there will be information
about flora and fauna, neolithic and megalithic history
including visits to 5000 year old tombs, details of
surrounding geology plus local history as we encounter
historic sites. This area will attract overseas visitors
who wish to accept the invitation to visit home and
see the country from a new prospective we have many
unique historical sites, and geological feature waiting

Festival for 2013 will be a week long event starting
on Monday 9th September with walks every day following
the Miners way and Historical Trails and Finishing
on Sunday 15th Sept. Please spread the word
that all are welcome to join our walks for one day

in Boyle at 11am.
Monday 9th Sept - Boyle Abbey, King House and
Red Earls Road. (Boyle to Ballinafad)
The route will pass Boyle Abbey and King House then
follows the Historical Trail over the Curlew Mts.
Length 12km with 200m climb time 4 hours
Tuesday 10th Sept - Carrowkeel Megalithic Tombs.
(Ballinafad to Castlebaldwin)
The route will follow the Historical Trail over the
Bricklieve Mts. We will visit Megalithic passage tombs.
Length 12km with 200m climb time 5 hours
Wednesday 11th Sept - Battle of Moytura. (Castlebaldwin
to Ballyfarnon)
The route will follow the Historical Trail past Heaps
the 5th largest cairn in Ireland and cross the ridge
of Moytura. Length 16km with 300m climb time 6 hours
Thursday 12th Sept - St Elba's Shrine. (Ballyfarnon
to Corrie Mtn.)
The route will follow the Miners Way over the Arigna
Mtns. Where St Elba's Shrine is located across Arigna
Valley and on to the Summit of Corrie Mtn the Highest
point in Roscommon.
Length 16km with 650m climb time 7 hours
Friday 13th Sept - Miners Way. (Corrie Mtn.
to Drumshambo)
The route will follow the Miners Way, great views
of Slieve Aniern and Lough Allen Irelands 6th largest
Lake. Length 18km with 250m climb time 6 hours
Saturday 14th Sept - Kilronan Mountain. (Arigna
to Crossna)
The route will follow the Miners Way to Keadue where
Turlough O'Carolan the 18th century Harpist is buried,
Then follwing the Historical trail past Lough Meelagh
to Crossna.
Length 16km with 200m climb time 5 hours
Sunday 15th Sept - Lough Key Forest. (Crossna
to Boyle)
The route will follow the Historical trail over the
Boyle river and to the shores of Lough Key.
Length 17km with 50m climb time 5 hours. For reasons
of safety and personal comfort, all walkers should
have the following basic items of equipment: Strong
waterproof boots, waterproof clothing and a walking
stick, Woollen hat and gloves, adequate food and liquids
for the day, and a small rucksack for all items. See
